Every year, we typically deliver two (2) programs that help unemployed workers acquire temporary employment and work experience.
Community Enhancement Employment Program
Every fall to winter (pending funding approval) we deliver a Community Enhancement Employment Program (CEEP). This is a provincially funded program that provides short-term employment. Workers in rural areas are employed by local governments or community organizations for up to 400 hours to assist them with eligibility for Employment Insurance benefits.
The Community Enhancement Employment Program provides funding towards projects that contribute to tourism development, economic development, community/municipal infrastructure, and community services. The funding also encourages project sponsors to develop projects that provide skills development opportunities for workers and ongoing benefits to the region.
Types of CEEP Projects:
Construction and renovations projects
Pending approval, the 2024 – 25 CEEP will be advertised in October 2024. Ad can be found in What’s New, in our community memos, and on social media.

Job Creation Partnerships
Every year (pending funding approval) we deliver a Job Creation Partnerships (JCP) program. JCPs are designed to support community-based, not-for-profit projects. These projects provide EI-eligible participants with opportunities to gain work experience to improve their employment prospects. Project activities should benefit both the participant and the community. The primary focus of the JCP program is helping insured participants who need work experience to increase their chances of successfully finding ongoing employment.
Types of JCP Projects:
- Construction and renovation projects
- Various projects under the Four Directions Departments
JCP Intake is now closed.
If a position becomes vacant it will be advertised in What’s New, in our community memos, and on social media.

Job Security
The majority of the permanent positions with the Flat Bay Band Inc. started out on projects and grew with us. As we are a non-profit band, we do not have core funding, and can only secure positions based on the projects we get approved. Having said that, we have a number of employees who have been with us for 10-15 years.
Current staff are retained by moving them from project-to-project within the same tier (theme) of the department in which they currently serve. We do not advertise positions such as these.
However, we do advertise positions where additional staff are needed in each department.
We actively engage all levels of government, and public and private agencies/industry to gain funding and to support to hire and retain employees.
Because we can never commit fully to job security, we pay competitive wages and provide life insurance, retirement bonuses, more holidays, and employment flexibility.
Job Interviews
Applicants are interviewed with a scoring process that is overseen by a scrutineer. An automatic score is given to the following profiles, but in the end, the individual with the highest score (most capable person) is awarded the position.
- Member of Flat Bay Band Inc. and a resident of Flat Bay- 20%
- Member of Flat Bay Band Inc. but living somewhere else – 15%
- Non-member of Flat Bay Band Inc. but a resident of Flat Bay – 10%
- Member of another band – 5%

Proposal Writers/Project Managers
If you are an experienced Proposal Writer or Project Manager, have skills in either proposal writing and/or project management, and have a project idea that might be of interest to our band and community, we are open to working with you.
In such cases, individuals who assist us with developing proposals and who are successful at getting the proposal approved, may also be considered for a position or partnership in that given project.
Project/Proposal Eligibility
- Must not duplicate any positions, projects, and services that we are already delivering.
- Must be of interest to our band and community needs and objectives.
- Must be a non-profit or social enterprise concept.
If successful, we will honor that position or partnership. We are transparent and diligent about avoiding open advertising, which would otherwise not be fair to the individual chosen or public.
